Jump-Start Service in Colombo

Colombo's business core runs on cars that sit still. A vehicle parked from morning in a Fort office bay, with the alarm, tracker and dashcam quietly drawing current, is working harder than it looks. Our technicians cover Colombo and the suburbs around the clock, and we come to the bay your car is parked in.

24-hour jump-start and battery service in Colombo

If your car won’t start in Colombo, JumpStart.lk will come to you. Our technicians cover the city and surrounding areas  including Fort, Pettah, Slave Island, Kompannavidiya, Kollupitiya, Bambalapitiya, Borella and Maradana, across Colombo 1 to Colombo 15 — 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

There is no need to find a colleague with jumper cables, push the car out of a parking bay, or arrange a tow. Call or WhatsApp 070 640 0721, tell us where you are and what you drive, and a technician will be on the way with a professional jump pack. We confirm the price before setting off, and you pay only once the car is running.

What we do

On-site jump-start. We come to your vehicle and start it where it stands, using a portable lithium jump pack rather than cables from a second car. Cars, SUVs, vans and hybrids all covered.

Free battery test with every job. Before recommending anything we test the battery. Sometimes a car has simply run down because a light was left on or the vehicle stood unused — in that case we say so, start it, and advise a decent run rather than sell you something you do not need.

Battery replacement, delivered and fitted. If the battery is genuinely finished we fit a new one on the spot, with warranty. No second trip, no visit to a battery shop, no leaving the car overnight in a city car park.

Hybrid battery service. For Vezel, Aqua, Prius, CHR and Fit hybrid owners, it is nearly always the small 12V auxiliary battery that strands you rather than the main drive battery. We handle those properly.

24/7 emergency call-out. Nights, weekends and public holidays included.

Multi-storey and basement car parks

This is the problem that makes city breakdowns different. Your car is on level three of an office building, or in a basement bay under a shopping centre, and it will not start.

Jumper cables assume two vehicles can be brought nose to nose. In a tight parking bay with pillars either side, that is often physically impossible  and even where it is possible, manoeuvring a second car into position blocks the aisle for everyone else trying to leave. Calling a tow truck for a battery is worse: expensive, slow, and frequently impractical because the truck cannot get down the ramp at all.

A portable jump pack solves it in minutes. Our technician walks in with the pack, connects directly at the battery terminals, and starts the engine where the car is parked. Nothing needs to be moved and nobody else is inconvenienced.

If your building has controlled access, mention it when you call. We are used to signing in at reception, being escorted to a level, and working tidily in someone else’s premises  it matters when you are the one vouching for a visitor at the desk.

Why city cars fail at the end of the day

The pattern in Colombo is overwhelmingly the going-home call rather than the morning one. A car that started perfectly at eight will not start at six.

Nothing has changed during the day. While a vehicle is off, the alarm, immobiliser, tracker and dashcam continue drawing a small current. On a new battery that draw is trivial. On a battery in its fourth or fifth year, eight or nine hours of it is often the last demand it can meet.

The city commute compounds it. Starting an engine takes a large burst of current, and the alternator only replaces that charge properly on a sustained run at steady speed. Crawling through Galle Road or the Fort approaches with the air conditioning, lights and wipers running means the alternator is working near its limit just to cover what the car is using at that moment. Very little goes back into the battery.

Short distances make it worse again. A two or three kilometre drive across town gives almost no recovery time, so a car used only for short city hops can be losing ground every single day without the driver noticing.

Hotel, apartment and visitor parking

Alongside the office calls, we get a steady stream from hotel car parks, apartment basements and visitor bays. These are usually people who are already having an inconvenient evening  luggage in the boot, somewhere to be, and a car that will not start.

The same approach applies. We come to the vehicle, and in most cases it is running again within minutes of the technician reaching it. If you are somewhere with a barrier, a valet system or restricted access, tell us on the phone so it can be arranged in advance rather than negotiated at the gate.

Signs your battery is about to strand you

Slow, laboured cranking is the clearest warning, particularly first thing in the morning. If starting the car has begun to feel like an effort rather than an instant, take note.

Dimming lights at idle are another sign  headlights or dashboard lights that fade when you are stopped in traffic and brighten when you rev the engine.

If you have needed a jump-start before, even once, treat it seriously. A healthy battery in a healthy car should not need rescuing. And past three years in this climate, a battery is realistically in the second half of its life, because sustained heat wears a lead-acid battery considerably faster than cooler countries do.

What to do while you wait

Switch off everything electrical  headlights, air conditioning, radio, interior lights. Anything drawing power is working against you.

Stop turning the key. Repeated attempts drain what little charge remains and, on petrol engines, can flood the cylinders and make the eventual start harder.

If you are in a car park, note the level and bay number before you call — it saves the technician several minutes of searching. Have your keys ready and make sure the bonnet can be opened, as a completely flat battery affects the central locking on some vehicles.

If your car has stopped in traffic rather than in a bay, put your hazard lights on, stay out of the carriageway where you can, and say so when you call so the technician arrives prepared for a roadside job.
