24-hour jump-start and battery service in Kolonnawa

If your car won’t start in Kolonnawa, JumpStart.lk will come to you. Our technicians cover Kolonnawa and the surrounding areas — including Wellampitiya, Sedawatta, Orugodawatta, Salamulla, Meethotamulla and the Kolonnawa Road corridor — 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

There is no need to find someone with jumper cables, push the car out of a lane, or arrange a tow. Call or WhatsApp 070 640 0721, tell us where you are and what you drive, and a technician will be on the way with a professional jump pack. We confirm the price before setting off, and you pay only once the car is running.

What we do

On-site jump-start. We come to your vehicle and start it where it stands, using a portable lithium jump pack rather than cables from a second car. Cars, SUVs, vans and hybrids all covered.

Free battery test with every job. Before recommending anything we test the battery. Sometimes a car has simply run down, or a terminal has corroded, rather than the battery being finished  in that case we say so and fix the actual problem rather than sell you something you do not need.

Battery replacement, delivered and fitted. If the battery is genuinely finished we fit a new one on the spot, with warranty. No second trip, no visit to a battery shop, no leaving the vehicle parked somewhere overnight.

Hybrid battery service. For Vezel, Aqua, Prius, CHR and Fit hybrid owners, it is nearly always the small 12V auxiliary battery that strands you rather than the main drive battery. We handle those properly.

24/7 emergency call-out. Nights, weekends and public holidays included.

Industrial premises and site access

Kolonnawa has more restricted-access sites than most parts of Colombo — the oil installation, fuel depots, warehousing and yards where safety rules are strict and visitors are not simply waved through.

We respect that entirely, and it is one of the few areas where the phone call matters as much as the job. If your vehicle is inside a site with a gate pass system, a permit requirement, a no-naked-flame area or an escort rule, say so when you call. We will arrange it properly rather than send someone who gets turned away at the barrier.

It is also worth telling us where exactly the vehicle sits within the site. A yard can be large, and “in the car park” is not much help when there are four of them.

Working vehicles and heavier batteries

The vehicle mix here skews commercial. Vans, pickups, light lorries and tankers all use batteries with far more capacity than a family car, and they need correspondingly more power to turn over.

Working vehicles also carry electrical demand the manufacturer never allowed for — additional lighting, inverters running tools, equipment charging through the day. The alternator was sized for the standard load, not the extra, so the battery never quite returns to full charge. It copes for a year or two, then starts struggling on Monday mornings after standing over the weekend.

We carry equipment rated well above passenger car requirements, so a loaded van or a light lorry is not a problem. Tell us the vehicle when you call and the technician arrives with the right kit rather than discovering the issue on site.

Narrow lanes and dense housing

Away from the industrial areas, the residential streets around Wellampitiya, Sedawatta and Salamulla are tightly built, with houses fronting directly onto lanes barely wide enough for one vehicle.

A car that will not start in one of those blocks the whole lane, and there is rarely room to bring a second vehicle alongside for jumper cables even if a neighbour offered. Reversing another car into position usually makes things worse.

A portable jump pack settles it without any of that. Our technician walks in with the pack, connects at the battery terminals, and starts the engine where the car sits. Nothing else moves and the lane stays passable.

Short trips and standing time

The ordinary causes apply here as everywhere. Starting an engine draws a large burst of current, and the alternator only replaces that charge properly on a sustained run at steady speed. Short local trips with the air conditioning running give it very little chance.

Standing does the rest. Alarms, immobilisers, trackers and dashcams draw a small continuous current whenever the vehicle is off, and a work van left over a long weekend can lose more charge than a short drive will put back.

Heat compounds both. Sustained high temperatures accelerate the chemical wear inside a lead-acid battery, so one that might last five or six years in a cooler country often gives three or four here.

Signs your battery is about to strand you

Slow, laboured cranking is the clearest warning, particularly first thing in the morning or after the vehicle has stood for a few days.

Dimming lights at idle are another sign  headlights or dashboard lights that fade when you are stopped and brighten when you rev the engine.

If the vehicle has needed a jump-start before, even once, treat it seriously. A healthy battery in a healthy vehicle should not need rescuing. Past three years in this climate a battery is realistically in the second half of its life.

What to do while you wait

Switch off everything electrical  headlights, air conditioning, radio, interior lights. Anything drawing power is working against you.

Stop turning the key. Repeated attempts drain what little charge remains and, on petrol engines, can flood the cylinders and make the eventual start harder.

Give us a clear landmark and, if you are on a site, the gate you want the technician to come to. Have your keys ready and make sure the bonnet can be opened, as a completely flat battery affects the central locking on some vehicles.
