The tell to watch for

If you drive the hill country, watch for one thing above all: slow cranking on cold mornings. If the engine turns over more sluggishly than it used to when it’s cold, the battery is struggling, and the next hard cold snap may finish it. Dimming lights when you’re idling are another warning. Past three years, a battery is realistically in the second half of its life — and the cold up here is unforgiving of a tired one.
